11月定例会
第１部
11月13日(木)に第2回「スイスイ英語」をカラオケ館銀座総本店で開催しました。
今回持ち寄ったトピックは登山家 故中島健郎氏の関西学院賞の授与式、トランプ政治の実体と反発、少子高齢化の原因、高市内閣に対する常識的視点からの検討の必要性、さらに瀬戸内国際芸術祭の作品（海・産みの器）の解説などについて英語と日本語で話したり、意見を述べ合ったりしました。どの話題も簡単には終われない内容でした。
その後、各自の持ち歌をたっぷりと歌い、午後４時過ぎまでみんなで楽しみました♫
第２部
今月は10月2２日(土)午後２時から「しっかり英語」をGoogle Meet によりオンラインで開催しました。
このところ、トランプ大統領のいろんな施策が議論を呼んでいますが、それを一度整理してじっくりながめ、どの方向に進んでいるかを確認して、将来のことを考えました。教材はThe New York Times(October 28)の記事から選びました。
題名は「A New Era of Strongman Rulers is Upon Us」
論文内容を表すkey-sentenceは以下の通りです。
- 「現在」は、すでに始まっている「権威主義社会の初期症状」である。
If the world seems on edge these days, with alliances fraying, violent conflicts merging and volatility as the order of the day, there is a reason. These are the early shocks of a world being shaped by leaders who govern by personal will instead of rules and consensus.

That era is fading.
The unpredictability and volatility of strong man rule is back.
本文をメンバーに割り振り、各自が担当パートにつき日本語で翻訳文を述べ、重要英文にいての解釈に検討を加えました。
その後に以下の設問について各自が意見を述べて、例会を終了しました。
（お題）トランプ大統領は諸施策をあと３年半続けて展開していくと、どのようになるのか、どの方向で変わっていくのか、まずは現在の変化の事実からその方向を確認したい。
論点は下記であった。尚、この方向はそう簡単に変えられないであろうと考える。

- Oppression of civil opinions, elimination of opposition people, immigrant exclusion, interference of university affairs, denial of climate problem, denial of science and technology

- His proclivity: lost shame, no remorse, guilt-free

- Scholars of study of geoeconomics
Prediction of general direction
By these analyses and understandings, we may affirm that Trump’s current failures of all his politics may make him more escalate (double down) than ever just for his satisfaction.
Regrettably, his calm down is a remote possibility.
