Horror in Paris
パリ市内の数か所で同時に発生、多くの犠牲者が出たテロ事件に関する記事を音読、討議した。何故、フランスが狙われたのか？という観点からの分析で、興味深い。フランス国内で、大きくなったモスリム社会と主流社会との融合が進まず、経済的不満を高め、社会的疎外感を強めたモスリム社会の国民がISに加わり、闘争力を付け、帰国、国内の主流社会への戦いを仕掛けているものであると分析している。
We read aloud and discussed the article on horrific acts that were committed almost simultaneously at several places in Paris. Analysis of the article centered on descriptions about why Paris was the target. It explains that the root cause lies in the internal relationship between the Muslim community and the mainstream of French. Socially alienated Muslims are just angry at economic, social and foreign policies. After joining the IS militants, many of them have returned to France, being eager to wage terroristic attacks at home. The prospect of “lone wolf” attacks is also being worried. Therefore, France could now be claimed to be a hotbed of activity for the extremists or terror groups. The article is concluded by stating that a united front by the international community is essential and the only solution.
Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) takes flight
MRJジェット機の初飛行成功のニュースを捉えた記事を取り上げた。三菱重工が、単独で短中距離市場向けの小型機を開発したとの記事である。我々が話題にしたことは、２００８年に予定されていた初飛行が、その後５度も失敗しているように、此れまでに可なりの開発費が累積しているであろうこと、海外市場に新たに打って出るには、部品供給を含むサービス体制づくりに甚大な時間、
費用、後発の販売開拓リスクを覚悟しなければならない筈で、記事が、楽観的なトーンで締め括られていることが気になったことである。
Next, we read aloud and discussed the topic on the successful maiden flight of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ). The article is reporting on its fuel-efficiency feature or expected job opportunities in the domestic industry as a whole, etc. if and when the project could enter the phase of production. However, the majority opinion in our discussion was that we cannot be overly optimistic about its prospects particularly when we consider the huge development cost as apparently should have been accumulated in the project history, as shown in the five time postponement of maiden flight in the past years. Additionally, we have no doubt that the project will have to overcome unexperienced risks from this stage on for successfully opening up the already competitive overseas market and establishing a reliable service system. It was agreed that we should not be just too optimistic about the project.
